UTS Schools Winter Program

The UTS Schools Winter Program  helps aspiring junior rowers develop their skills and aims to compliment their school rowing programs. Over the years, the UTS Haberfield Rowing Club has forged strong relationships with many schools in the Sydney area. We regularly visit these schools to talk to students about the tertiary education and rowing opportunities available after school, including UTS' Elite Athlete Program.

By design, our program creates a clear pathway for junior athletes into the club system and elite-level rowing.

Winter 2022

High-performing school rowers are invited to try out for our program. You will have the opportunity to work with Head Coach and 7 time Olympic Medalist, Tim McLaren. Other coaches include Australian team coaches and winning GPS HOR 1st and 2nd 8+ coaches.

Sessions will predominantly focus on technique and skill acquisition. There will also be opportunities to improve your physical development. Spaces are  limited, so get in quick by submitting the form below.

Cost

The Winter 2022 program costs $500, payable after being accepted into the program (post tryout).

Time Commitment

27th April to 21st August.

Program includes 2 sessions per week with flexible training days.

Tryout

Given that spaces are strictly limited, be prepared to undertake a strength and fitness testing session. After this tryout, invitations to participate in the Winter 2022 program will then be sent to selected athletes, based on collected data and performance at the tryout session.
Tryout sessions run between March 15th and April 19th.
Athletes who attended the 2021 program are not required to retrial.

Opportunities

Successful Applicants will have the opportunity to race in the following for UTS:
  • Interclub regattas in Melbourne and Brisbane - TBC
  • J.B. Sharp Winter Series (Iron Cove), Dates TBC
  • 2021/2022 regatta season
